ABOUT

Rebecca Braziel is an American visual artist known for assemblage paintings and sculptures, and interactive collaborative installations. She is continually exploring new materials and ways of working in her native Savannah, Georgia and has exhibited nationally and internationally. Rebecca’s work invites audiences to connect with themes of taking up space, coping with trauma, healing, engaging with nature, and connection to community.

Rebecca graduated from the Savannah College of Art and Design with a B.F.A. in Fibers in 2008. In 2013 she moved to Houston and completed a six-month residency at the Houston Center for Contemporary Craft, acted as member of Box13 Artspace, received the Houston Individual Artist Grant, and exhibited at venues such as Lawndale Art Center, Galveston Arts Center, and the Museum of Fine Arts Houston. A return to  Savannah in 2020 led to her acting as Alumni Mentor for the Savannah College of Art and Design and Community Artist Educator for SCAD MOA. In 2021 she received the On:VIEW Residency at Arts Southeast in Savannah and has since established a dedicated public-facing studio practice in their Studio 14. Through her studio she offers monthly programming that includes exhibitions, workshops, interactive art, and collaborations. Dedicated to engaging and animating a diverse public, Rebecca received the Starlandia Community Grant in 2024. Rebecca thoughtfully and critically creates art objects and experiences that are not easily categorized, offering  on the categories of fine art, painting, fiber, and craft.
